Wondeful view of the downs

Wonderful view of the downs

Well, last week-end didn’t work out as planned.  Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for The Cheka in his race in France.  They went no pace, M Lemaire got him well boxed in and then had nowhere to go until 50 yards before the line.  The whole thing was incredibly frustrating and we all left Longchamp feeling very down in the mouth and we learnt nothing.  On the upside, the horse travelled well, took nothing out of himself and is looking fine.  I think I will probably up him in trip and may put some sort of headgear on next time to help him to concentrate.  Unfortunately he thinks that racing is just a big game and something he doesn’t need to make any effort in.

Fontley on the other hand ran a blinder to be 2nd in the listed race at Sandown.  She really is tough and improving with every run.  I think she will benefit from a step up in trip and possibly a bit more give in the ground.

It has been a joy riding out in the mornings at the moment, because of the hot weather we have been pulling out at 6.30 and its just lovely up on the downs at that time.  The larks are singing away and the air is clear and the views are spectacular.

Judd Street is running at Ascot today, they were extremely rude about him in the Racing Post, and although he is quite high in the handicap I am hoping he can go close.
